Queen of Hearts Explosion box tutorial part 2

"Queen of Hearts" Just in time for Valentine's day. Explosion box. Free tutorial part 2

Here is part 2 of the 2 part tutorial on the "Queen of hearts" explosion box. 

Who wouldn't like to receive this full of photo's and personal sentiments on Valentine's day? Or just because you love someone. 

You can make it in their favourite colours, or for a wedding couple. 

The possibilities are endless.



Skill level: Intermediate

Time: No time frame, make at your own pace




Let's get started......
Supplies:

  • Basic explosion box from tutorial 1 and left over card stock, red and white. You may use extra sheets also
  • Cutting/score tool (You can use a ruler, preferably metal)
  • Scissors
  • Double sided tape
  • Glue (I used bostick glue stick)
  • Patterned paper (I used 2 sheets of 1 design)
  • Spellbinders Heart die set S4-136
  • Envelope maker (memory keepers)
  • Cuttlebug embossing folder - Hearts. You can use any make as long as it is comapitable with your machine.
  • Big shot.
  • Martha Stewart 'hearts edger' punch
  • 1" hole punch

Matting the layers:
Cut card squares for matting as follows.

Card B:  Cut 4 pieces 3 1/2  x 3 1/2 " (9cm x 9cm) 
Card A:  Cut 4 pieces 3 1/4" x 3 1/4" (8.5cm x 8.5cm) 
Card B:  Cut 4 pieces 3' x 3' (7.5cm x 7.5cm)

Emboss all squares. I used hearts by cuttlebug.

Flip over your bases as the mats will be adhered to this side only. Glue as shown with double sided tape.



Adhere all embossed squares to the 3 layers alternating colours.

Tip:  Ensure that the pattern points inwards to the centre on each flap.



Hearts:

Cut hearts as follows.
5 Red using size 4 of spellbinders die.
9 white  using size 3.
4 red using size 3.

Adhere to layers as shown. 2 hearts are for the lid.


Note:

I added extra white hearts to the outer layer onto of the red ones. Shown in closed view of explosion box.

Pocket: Outer layer 

Cut 4:  4 3/8" x 3 1/8" (11cm x  8cm) in card B.
Score at each long end at 3/8" (1cm). Fold

Mark centre long side.

Cut 4: 3 1/8' x 2 3/4" (8cm x 7cm) in patterned paper.
Adhere to centre of folded card.
Using 1" hole punch, pouch half circle at the centre top where marked.
Adhere all 4 pockets to inner side of outer layer ensuring pocket tops face upwards.







Flap: Middle layer

Cut 4: 5 1/2" x 3 1/8" (14cm x 8cm) in card A
Score at 3 1/8" (8cm) lengthwise. Fold 
Round top flap ends if desired

Cut 4 : 5 1/8" x 2 3/4" (13cm x 7xm) in patterned paper. Rounding top ends to match.
Cut 4  2 3/4" x 2" (7cm x 5cm) in patterned paper. Rounding top ends.

Adhere to cardstock and outer flap





Envelopes: Inner layer

Cut papers 6" x 6" 
Using envelope punch board and patterned paper Score and punch at 3". Rotate and repeat on all sides. Fold your envelope.
Adhere to inside of inner layer ensuring your envelope opening faces upwards.



Lid:


Mark centre point on each side. Using decorative edge punch (I used Martha Stewart hearts) Punch x 1 in the centre.

Cut 1: 3 1/2" x 3/12" (9cm x 9cm) in card B and emboss.
Adhere to lid.
Adhere 2 hearts to lid following direction of the embossed pattern.
Fold and glue lid at the corners.


Adhere all the layers together making sure they are all centred on each other.


Your finished explosion box should look like this........
