Flip album tutorial Part 2. Matting the Base pages.

Flip album. Free tutorial Part 2. Matting the Base pages.

"Gears"

Here is the second part in the 'flip' album tutorials.

All instructions will be in inches with cm in brackets

At the end of this tutorial you will have a base album with extra page insert, matted ready to embellish.
Embellishing, photo matting, tags and more in tutorial 3.

Supplies:

Co-ordinating papers. I used Kaisercarat 'Timeless memories" and a some co-ordinating green papers from my stash.
Double sided tape - white
Double sided tape - red extra strength.
Glue stick. I used bostick.
Scissors
Cutting tool.
And of course your base album from tutorial 1.

Method:
let's begin.........

Front cover

Cut paper 5 1/8" (13cm) x 5 1/8" (13cm) x 2 pieces.

Using white double sided tape, tape the back.

Adhere to the front face of the cover on both covers.

It's that simple!

Matting the larger pages

Now I am going to show you how to mat the larger pages of your album.
Select some of your papers in a variety of greens and browns. Set aside ready to cut. Don't discard any of the leftover pieces as these will be used to mat the smaller pages and also for co-ordinating embellishments and photo mats.

Firstly mat the inside back and the outside back if the cover.

TIP:
The paper should match to achieve the best look.

Cut paper 5 1/2" (14cm) x 5 1/2" (14cm) x 2

Adhere to the back cover and the inside back cover.

Large page mats.

There are 6  pages and so 6 mats to make.

TIP:
Choose 3 co-ordinating papers of green and brown and make 2 mats of each paper.

Cut 5 1/2" ( 14cm) x 5 1/2" (14 cm) x 6

Starting with the front inside cover, adhere your mat. hen go to the back inside cover and adhere the same paper pattern to the cover.

Continue adhering your mats this way until you have matted all the large pages.

The front pages and the back pages should match, giving your album a uniform look, when opened from the centre out, or front to back and visa versa.

Now you have matted the large album pages. That was simple too!!

Matting the small album pages

There are 8 pages and so 8 mats to make.

TIP:
Choose a max 4 co-ordinating papers of green and brown and make 2 mats of each. I used 2 co-ordinating papers of browns and made 4 of each.

Cut  3" (7.5cm) x 5 1/2" (14cm) x 8

Start matting from the front onto the 'flaps' of the pages on both sides. Ensuring that front and back pages match.

NOTE: This image shows 2 flaps (brown), the page underneath (green) is a large matted page

Continue until all pages and both sides of 'flaps' are matted.

Your album will look like this, ready to add extra pages.

Extra pages:

Using base card stock. I used brown.
Cut 11 1/4" (28.5cm) x 5 1/2" (14cm) x 1

Using your score pad. I used memory keepers 'trim and score' tool but you can use stampin'up or any other cutting/scoring tools you have.

Score at 3 3/4" (9.5cm) and 7 1/2" (19cm).

Fold using mountain and valley technique.
Image shows matted insert.

Only cover 5 folded pages. Leaving the last one on the back to attach to the inside back of the album.

Use remaining papers to mat.

Cut 3 1/2" ( 9cm)  x  5 1/4" (13.5cm) x 5

Adhere to folded page leaving back folded page, unmatted.

Adhere this to the inside back cover of the base album, making sure you centre the added pages. Check which way you want this to open before securing the extra pages.

Here's a sneak preview of pages from tutorial 3.

Now the album is ready to embellish.

Coming up .....

In tutorial 3 I will be teaching you some fun ways to embellish the pages of the album.
How to make photo mats, tags, pockets and more.
So I look forwards to seeing you then. Have your album ready.
