Gift box tutorial. 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" finished size

Gift box tutorial

Here's a free tutorial on how to make the basic gift box.

Skill : Easy
Time:  allow couple of hours, don't rush relax

Materials:

  • Scissors
  • Cutting/score tool
  • Glue/double sided tape
  • Embellishments (use whatever you have in your stash)
  • Cardstock. (Min 120g weight)
  • Patterned paper

Lets begin......

Instructions:

  • Cut card 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" and score 1/2" all around. This is the lid piece.
  • Cut card 6 3/8" x 6 3/8" and score at 1' all around. This is the base piece

  • Trim corners as shown as this makes the corners neater when glued.

  • Cut mat  4" x 4" for lid from patterned paper. Round the edges of the mat.
  • Adhere to lid ensure it is centred between score lines
  • Glue and fix the tags to inside of lid.

Basic lid is complete

Base:
  • Score and fold and adhere tags as for lid

The basic box is finished

Now to decorate your box:

I decided to use gold papers from my stash and cut 2 dragonflies. It would look just as nice with flowers or butterflies.

I also trimmed the edge of the lid with co-ordinating ribbon, using thin double sided tape. This also strengthens the lid.

Tip: Make sure you co-ordinate your embellishments with the paper used for the mat on the lid.
