"Queen of Hearts" Just in time for Valentine's day. Explosion box. Free tutorial part 1
I made this one using 2 colours of card stock and 1 printed paper. You can vary this in so many ways, but first I will show you how to make the basic explosion box.
Skill level: Intermediate
Time frame: No time frame, make at your own pace.

Supplies:
- Glue (I used bostick glue stick)
- Double sided tape
- Cutting/Scoring tool
- 3 sheets of 12" x 12" (30cm x 30cm) card stock in main colour (I used red. A)
- 3 sheets of 12" x 12" (30cm x 30cm) card stock in complimentary colour (white. B)
- Pencil
- Ruler with in + cm measurements
Outer Layer.
Step 1: Using Card A (Red), 12" x 12" (30cm x 30cm) Measure 4" (10cm) from corner edge and mark a dot, and 8" (20cm) and mark.
Rotate card stock and repeat. Score at these measurements on all 4 sides.
Step 2: Using your straight edge cutter (or a pair of scissors) cut
inwards at the corners. See the diagram below for instructions. After cutting
and detaching your corners, you should be left with the base of the explosion box. Save the corner pieces for matting.
Measurements shown in in" but instructions include cm. |
Middle Layer.
Step 1: Using card B, (white), cut card stock to measure 11 1/4 (28.5cm) square.
Measure 3 3/4" ( 9.5cm x 9.5cm) intervals and mark.
Rotate card and repeat on all 4 sides. Score at these measurements.
Step 2: Repeat as step 2 for outer layer with these measurements.
Inner layer:
Step 1: Using Card A (Red), Cut card to 10 1/2" x 10 1/2: sq (25.5cm x 25.5cm)
Measure 3 1/2" (9cm) from corner edge and mark a dot, and 7" (18cm) and mark.
Rotate card stock and repeat. Score at these measurements on all 4 sides.
Step 2: Repeat as step 2 for outer layer with these measurements.
Step 2: Repeat as step 2 for outer layer with these measurements.
